Your Gift

Last week, a Chinese proverb came into my life.  It said, “Your teacher can open the door, but you must enter by yourself.”

At first, I thought, yes, but what about my friends and family who can walk through with me?!  True, but I will not be focusing on that here. Rather, the essence of what I feel this proverb is offering us.

As I step into the last 6 weeks of my pregnancy, this could not ring truer for me or my students.

My practice is going to change, as it always does, but more so, after having a child.  My students will take with other teachers, try DVD’s, and use you online support, to continue their practices, which in turn will support and change their practices!

Therein lies your gift, my gift… it is us!  We, ourselves, must “enter by ourselves”. There is support, there are multiple avenues to seek out a practice now a days, but it is we who must take the steps for our own growth.

Maybe it means finally starting a home practice, or maybe it means finally just getting to the studio.  Maybe “entering by ourselves” means saying no to something, or maybe it means accepting a new position at work or in life. Whatever the case, some teacher had opened a door; even if that teacher was the universe, and, even if what the universe was offering to us is a closed door, so another can open.

I don’t know what the future holds, and I feel bad “leaving” my students for this maternity leave.  However, I can let go now, knowing and trusting that you all will remember your gifts… The gift, and the ultimate teacher, of your Self!  Go open the door!

P.S.  I’ll be back too 😉
