How do you deal with separation?
From our experience, we’ve found that leaving your child (who is upset about separating from you) is the most effective way for us to engage him/her in school activities and distract him/her from the transition. However, we encourage you to stay for the first couple of minutes of class (especially during the first weeks) to help your child with this transition. If you leave your child crying, we will call you with updates.
Does my child need to be potty trained?
The short answer is no. Because it is a 3-hour program we ask that if your child is not potty trained, that you change him/her right before TOO COOL to lessen the chance that we’ll need to change diapers. While we don’t mind doing it, we want our teachers to focus on teaching! Either way, we do diaper checks and bathroom breaks/reminders every hour.
What is Loose Parts?
Loose parts is a term coined by architect Simon Nicholson in the 1970’s who believed that “loose parts” in our environment will empower our innate creativity. Loose parts are materials (natural or manmade) that can be connected in some way either thematically or physically. In TOO COOL, we choose monthly thematic units and transform the studio into a laboratory of sorts exploring that theme.
What’s your educational approach?
We believe that children learn best through a combination of tactile, physical, visual and verbal experiences. Our curriculum focuses on broad themes taught through play, exploration, experimentation and collaboration. Our goals are to impart on our students a love of learning and a sense of community associated with their first school setting.
Is there snack?
Yes, we serve a healthy snack in the middle of the morning or afternoon. If your child is attending Monday afternoons he/she will be making his/her own snack in cooking!
